fluttering into the darkness

i felt the universe crash as i fluttered into the darkness

flushed with insecurity, my sinking eyes wandered callous shadows

baking in the solitude of fear, i laughed only for what i could not grasp

[he lingered]

the pain waged war with bruised memories, failing to account for tears left unnoticed

[he] seared into youthful skin, admiring my weakness, piercing the flesh

resulting in a bitterness so clever even i could not take credit for playing the fool

i had hoped it would never come to this, despite all my best efforts [it did]

although i claimed the finding myself amongst the fallen ashes

confusion rendered me useless as i discretely laced happiness with heartache

remaining silent

breathless

before the beauty which unfolded in the darkness

can i no longer distinguish love’s weakest and pain’s finest

[he can]
